AUSTRALIA DAY

Australia Day at Samford Museum is something to be remembered for a long time. The day is very busy with lots of entertainment for young and old alike.

As this is a day about Australia, its past and its future, the Museum endeavours to incorporate things about our past that have made this, our wonderful country, so unique in its attitude to life and living, as well as those things from the past of our indigenous inhabitants from whom we are still learning.

The early pioneering days are reflected in the displays that are opened for the public and all are specifically there because they showcase a particular facet of our past.

Thus we are able to experience:

Teaching in the good old days - in the Replica School, with shingle roof and long desks.

Blacksmithing as the bellows blow, the fire roars and the hammer rings on the anvil.

Imagine riding in the sulky drawn by the handsome steed Top Marks stabled in The Mews.

Travel back in time in the Laundry with the Mrs Pots irons and wringing mangle, pegs and clothes line.

Marvel at the ingenuity of the pioneers with all the gadgets and implements in the Slab Kitchen and the the Machinery Shed.

Inspect the array of Vintage Vehicles, motorbikes and tractors that we display nearby in John Scott Park - right next to the Museum.

These vehicles encompass a wide and varied source of past history and
we have invited various clubs and individuals to come and display their vehicles for us and the public.

Poets, Singers, Bands, Costume Dressup, Swaggie, and of course the traditional raffles.

Australia Day wouldn't be right without a "Sauzage-sizzle". Lunch can be purchased and a visit to our country cooking stall is often very delightful.
Other refreshments are also available.

We as a Museum are always endeavouring to bring other interesting items into the day
